Have you had any fun with ChatGPT yet? With the Internet in a frenzy about this new kid on the technology block, I thought it would be good to highlight here what the fuss is all about.

In a nutshell, ChatGPT is an artificially intelligent chatbot system, available to all and currently still free, which you can access by registering on the OpenAI website. Once registered, you can ask the system any question and it will provide the answer.

Hmmm, sounds similar to what Google does? Well yes, but the difference lies in the fact that Google is a search engine that retrieves information from websites, while ChatGPT is a language model that has been trained to recognise patterns in text harvested from the Internet, then further trained with human assistance to paraphrase this information in a conversational way, depending on what it is asked.

The Internet has had a ton of fun, testing the limits of what ChatGPT can do — some have had it write them poetry, help them make music and even write whole computer programmes. I believe a doctor has even used ChatGPT to convince a health insurance company to pay for a patient’s procedure.
