THREADS ISN’T REALLY THE ‘X” KILLER IT PROMISED TO BE

In the ever-evolving world of social media, new platforms are constantly vying for users’ attention and loyalty. This month, a new contender, Threads — developed by Meta, had the world of social media go crazy, when it launched as an alternative to Elon Musk’s Twitter and even more so when it hit 100 million downloads in just four days!

The big buzz died down rather quickly though with Forbes Magazine reporting that the app’s daily active users dropped to 13 million from 44 million on July 7 — just two days after it launched. It seems the shiny new toy lost its sparkle very quickly.

Many are now speculating about the app’s uncertain future and its ability to compete with established platforms like Twitter. Some critics suggest that the app’s heavily moderated content and lack of engaging features might be contributing factors to this trend. Teething problems reported by early adopters include issues with bots and spam attacks, as well as the app’s current restriction to mobile devices only. The absence of hashtags and a ‘Trending’ section has also been a point of contention for some users.
